Hashim R. Kazmi, MD FACP
Nephrology, as a choice, came to me in a very inspirational and motivational form. When I had to face the loss of a very loved one-my mother, at the age of thirteen. That juncture made me choose medicine as a career. My brother's airplane accident led to the discovery of Adult Polycystic Kidney Disease (APKD) in my family. With him and two more of my siblings having been diagnosed with that, it seemed nephrology was written in my fate. I had options and chose to go to Yale University for my post-grad studies in Nephrology. That prepared me to face all the challenges in life as a Nephrologist. I've had a special interest in APKD since then. I've been involved in research in nephrology, on a number of projects, as well as teaching residents and med-students for several years.
The recent loss of my beloved younger brother left a chasmic wound, that has taken a couple of years to heal somewhat; but has rekindled the fire in my heart to try to stomp out kidney disease and hypertension to my best ability. I hope to be a participant, someday in the future, in a team, that could pioneer a cure for APKD in specific, and nephrology in general.
